Northwest Community Church is on an 8 week journey together through the Gospel of John. Each week our worship gatherings are based on John. Our community groups are studying John. And the entire church is reading each day through John.
As we go through the Gospel of John together keep in mind that John points to the reality that Jesus is the Son of God. Let that truth sink in for a moment…Jesus is the Son of God. How does that truth alter or affect your life?
Notice how this truth affected the life of John the Baptist in John 3:30-36. "He (Jesus) must become greater and greater, and I (John the Baptist) must become less and less." If Jesus is the Son of God it only makes sense that He should become greater in our lives.
So, how is Jesus becoming greater in your life today? How is Jesus becoming greater in your career? In your finances? In your marriage? In your hobbies? In your relationships?
Be sure to join Northwest this Sunday as we celebrate Father's Day and discover from John 4:46-54 how the faith of a father has a major impact on the health of the family. Remember dads, a godly father allows the family to see his faith grow as he becomes a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ.
I realize these are more personal or maybe thought provoking or rhetorical questions, but I thought I'd go ahead and answer them briefly from my perspective today. He is becoming greater in my life today in the fact that I've been refocusing on spending time in His word and with him more lately. I fell out of a routine or lost my discipline in doing that over the last few weeks /months but have come back to that and it feels GREAT. It's like honey in my mouth. With my finances because I know he's my provider and I'm responsible for what he has given me or put me in charge of or given me stewardship over. So I'm trying to nail down my budget and be disciplined in keeping up with what we do with what God has given us. In my marriage, that's a big one. I'm not sure on that. Satan keeps me very distracted and busy and I have to say I'm not sure how Jesus is becoming greater in my marriage. He has over time for sure but I'm not sure how he is becoming greater in my marriage TODAY or right now. I need to get disciplined and focus on that with prayer together as a couple and time spent with God together as a couple making Jesus greater in our marriage. Just like with my reading and praying with God daily and how I waiver in that, I need to get back to doing those things in my marriage, daily, weekly, monthly, making Jesus greater in our decisions and our time together. In my hobbies, I'm slowly becoming (again with some ups and downs in my life with focusing on this) more focused on using my hobbies as relational opportunities with others and to use that time to praise God and be thankful to Him. And then that leads to relationships. Overall, relationships covers my marriage, my family, my church, my work, my friends, my hobbies, and my relationship with Jesus Himself. Well, again like with my marriage, Satan keeps me distracted (and others) from talking about Jesus and talking about real life with people. It's just to easy to talk about work, busyness, sports, family, career, politics, etc. and leave Jesus out of all of those topics and conversations. So hopefully I will and can make Jesus a larger part of my conversations and a larger part of how I relate to others; relating what Jesus does in my life to them and what he can do, is doing, or would do in their lives. Thanks for the challenge to make Jesus a bigger part of my life TODAY. Success is being better today than yesterday. So my success is really whether or not Jesus is a bigger in my life today than he was yesterday. I can really say for TODAY any how, that is true. There are days when it's not true, but thankfully today it is! No matter what, He is faithful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments Davin. I always appreciate your honestly and transparency. I sure am grateful for God's grace to fill in the gaps of all my short-comings. Following Jesus is the greatest thrill in all of life. And you're right He is faithful!
